Monica Ballard-Booth

Director, Cornerstone Family Interventions, Inc.

Monica Ballard-Booth is the founder and director of Cornerstone Family Interventions, Inc. (CFI) where she oversees the Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center and Parents As Teachers (PAT) programs. Monica has been working with children and families for 20 years with an emphasis on child welfare and infant mental health. She is a licensed social worker, a psychologist, and a forensic interviewer. She provides Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to victims of abuse and neglect, child abuse evaluations, and infant mental health services. Monica has a passion for facilitating grassroots social change and empowering the people in her community. She serves as an active member of numerous state-wide and local collaborative teams and boards.

Carole Ertl

Therapist, Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center

Carole Ertl had served as the Child and Family Advocate at Cornerstone Family Interventions for many years and is now our therapist. She was raised in Ghent, WV, in Raleigh County. She attended Michigan State University for a semester after high school, then started working as a proofreader joining the International Typographical Union and worked 20 years in Chicago at the Sun-Times and The Chicago Tribune.
When she came back to West Virginia, she worked as a janitor until she was hired by Armco Steel to work in their #7 mine in Montcoal, WV. She joined the United Mine Workers Union and worked for 15 years in the underground coal mine. After she was laid off, she finished getting a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Liberty University. During that time, she made biscuits at McDonald's, worked as a telemarketer, and drove a taxi in Charleston, WV.

After earning her B.S., she worked as a Child Protective Service worker for three years at the Boone county DHHR. In January, she began working on the online Master's program for Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. She is the mother of four adult children, grandmother of four adult grandchildren and the great-grandmother of one toddler great-grandson. She has three dogs, Bob, Teddy and Tucker. She lives in Bob White, WV.

Krystol Stollings

Director of Psychological Services, Boone County Schools

Krystal Stollings, M.A., Ed.S., is the Director of School Psychological Services for Boone County Schools. She has over 10 years of professional experience working with students and families in the school system and is a National Certified School Psychologist. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology then furthered her education to obtain her Master’s in Elementary Education as well as Education Specialist degree in School Psychology through Marshall University. Her career commenced in Logan County as a school psychology intern. This employment opportunity provided Krystal with a strong training ground for becoming a child advocate. Her professional journey took a direction to be planted at her home roots working for Boone County Schools, where she has maintained her tenure for three years. Her career experience includes the implementation of individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational evaluations, developmental evaluations, assess student emotional and behavioral needs, help coordinate community services provided in schools, provide crisis prevention and intervention services, assist in navigating the special education process, conduct threat assessments, connect families with community service providers when necessary, plan services at the district/building/classroom/ individual levels, help families understand their child’s learning and mental health needs, conduct presentations for professional development regarding various school-related issues, and ensure the privacy of student educational records. Krystal is a member of the County-Wide Crisis Counseling Intervention Team; Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team as coordinated by the Child Advocacy Center; 2015 Board and Advisory Team For Cornerstone Family Interventions, Inc; Advisory Team for the Tri-County Youth Reporting Center; and Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Bethany Lucas

Child & Family Advocate Coordinator, Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center

Bethany started working at the Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center in May of 2022 as a Child and Family Advocate. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marshall University in 2020 with a B.A in psychology and a B.A in criminal justice. She is a very caring person and has a deep passion for helping people. She is very eager to assist the children and families in the community.

Bethany enjoys pyrography, archery, fishing, and watching scary movies. Here is one thing you probably would never guess about Bethany- she is interested in exploring haunted locations!

Jana Rooney

Child Protective Services Supervisor, Lincoln District

Jana is the Child Protective Services Supervisor at the Lincoln County Department of Health and Human Resources.
Jana is a graduate of Marshall University, earning her Bachelors of Social Work degree. She has served the children and families of Lincoln County for 15 years.

John Dent

Boone County Sheriff Department

John has served 12 years with the Sheriff’s Department. His family has a long history of protecting children His mother is a retired deputy sheriff who handled sexual assaults and child abuse and neglect cases. She served on the investigative team and now her son has joined the team.

Before becoming a deputy sheriff, he worked 8 years for the regional jail authority, 3 of which he was the institutional training officer.

Melanie Harper-Allen

Nurse Practioner

Melanie has a Bachelor of Art degree in psychology (1995) as well as a Master of Science in Nursing (2005) both obtained from Marshall University. She currently is employed by Boone Memorial Hospital as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She works in the Rural Health Clinic, Suboxone Clinic, and the Emergency Room. She also does part time work with Dignity Hospice in Chapmanville. Melanie is a resident of Madison and is an active participant with the local animal rescue Boone County Animal Rescue Coalition where she fosters stray dogs prior to finding them their forever homes.

Melanie enjoys camping and spends a lot of her summer at her second home in Hinton, WV with her husband Jason, her daughter, mother, father and her many dog companions. Melanie's favorite activity is travel and she has been fortunate to share these many memories with her daughter Madison and see many of the worlds wonders through her eyes. ​

Elliott Workman

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney

Elliott started with the prosecutor's office in July of 2023. Prior to that, she ran her own practice for nine years, but primarily worked with children as Guardian ad litem or represented them in a range of juvenile matters. She was also mental hygiene commissioner throughout that time. She has her undergraduate degree from West Virginia State University and a law degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

She enjoys spending time with family, fishing, and reading.

Kara Workman

Grant Administrator, Cornerstone Family Interventions, Inc.

Kara serves as the Grant Administrator at Cornerstone Family Interventions, Inc., where she oversees grant writing, reporting, and compliance to ensure sustainable support for children and families in Boone and Lincoln Counties. She first joined Cornerstone as a temporary Administrative Assistant from 2019–2021 and returned in 2025 after completing her degree to take on a leadership role in program development and resource management.

Kara graduated in 2022 from Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College with an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration and Accounting. During her studies, she was elected President of the National Society of Leadership & Success (NSLS) Southern Chapter, where she led volunteer initiatives throughout Logan and Boone Counties. She plans to further her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Guided by her faith and passion for advocacy, Kara is dedicated to strengthening services that provide healing and hope to survivors and their families.

Outside of her work, she enjoys playing video games, making art, and spending time with her cats and husband.

Jamie Cumbridge

Child & Family Advocate

Jamie began her journey with Cornerstone Family Advocacy Center as an intern in January 2024. Her dedication and compassion quickly earned her a position as a Child and Family Advocate in April 2024. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lindsey Wilson College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Counseling. Before joining Cornerstone, Jamie was a devoted stay-at-home mother who also provided care for ill and disabled family members until 2024. In addition to her professional and family commitments, Jamie has a long history of community service. She has served as a volunteer firefighter and has been an active member of the Civil Air Patrol since 1993. Her lifelong passion lies in helping others and making a difference in her community.

Outside of work, Jamie enjoys camping, gardening, cooking from scratch, working with herbs, and practicing homeopathic healing. She also loves caring for her chickens and expressing her creativity through calligraphy, exploring different lettering styles in her spare time. Jamie is also a historical reenactor, portraying an 17th-century woman who was adopted by a local Native American tribe.

A little-known fact about Jamie: she has studied martial arts for several years and currently holds a red belt in traditional Shotokan Karate.
